"Declare His glory among the nations, His marvelous deeds among all peoples."
Psalm 96:3 (NIV)
๐Missions Begins with God's Heart
When many people hear the word missions, they think of traveling to distant countries, preaching in villages, or planting churches in remote places. While these are important aspects of missions, they do not capture its deepest meaning.
Missions is not merely a department of the Church or a program on the church calendar.
Missions is the very heartbeat of God.
From the opening pages of Genesis to the closing vision in Revelation, one truth shines clearly: God desires that every tribe, every language, every people, and every nation know Him and worship Him.
The story of the Bible is, in many ways, the story of God's relentless love pursuing humanity.
๐God's Heart Was Revealed from the Beginning.
God's passion for the nations did not begin with the Great Commission. It began long before Jesus walked the earth.
After creation, humanity fell into sin, bringing separation from God. Yet even in judgment, God revealed His plan of redemption. Throughout the Old Testament, He consistently worked through individuals and nations to reveal His love to the entire world.
When God called Abraham, His purpose extended far beyond one family.
"I will bless you... and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you." Genesis 12:2-3
Notice that God's promise was never intended to stop with Abraham. It was meant to flow through him to all peoples.
From the very beginning, God was thinking globally.
๐Israel Was Chosen to Be a Light
God chose Israel not because He loved other nations less, but because He intended to reveal Himself to them through Israel.
The prophet Isaiah declared God's purpose:
"I will also make you a light for the Gentiles, that my salvation may reach to the ends of the earth." Isaiah 49:6
Israel was called to reflect God's character so that surrounding nations would come to know Him.
This same calling now belongs to the Church.
Jesus Came for the Whole World
The birth of Jesus was God's greatest missionary act.
Jesus left the glory of heaven, entered our broken world, lived among humanity, and gave His life for our salvation.
His mission was never limited to one nation or one ethnic group.
He welcomed the poor and the rich, Jews and Gentiles, men and women, children and the elderly. His compassion crossed every cultural, social, and geographical boundary.
Jesus demonstrated that God's love knows no borders.
๐The Great Commission Reveals God's Heart
Before returning to heaven, Jesus gave His followers one final command:
_"Go therefore and make disciples of all nations..."_ Matthew 28:19โ20
These were not optional words for a select few. They express God's desire for His entire Church.
The Great Commission is the natural outflow of God's heart. Because He loves the nations, He sends His people to them.
Every believer has a role to play. Some are called to go. Others are called to pray, give, encourage, train, welcome, or mobilize. Together, the Church participates in God's mission.
๐ The End of the Story Is Worship
The Bible ends with a breathtaking picture of God's fulfilled purpose.
The Apostle John wrote:
_"After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb."_ Revelation 7:9
This is the destination of history.
One day, people from every culture and language will worship Jesus together.
Missions is God's means of bringing that vision to reality.
๐What Does This Mean for Us?
If missions is the heartbeat of God, it should also become the heartbeat of every believer.
We cannot claim to love what God loves while remaining indifferent to those who have never heard the Good News.
Around the world, billions of people still have little or no opportunity to hear the gospel in a way they can understand. Many live among unreached people groups where there are few believers, few churches, and limited access to Scripture.
This reality should move us to pray more fervently, give more generously, serve more faithfully, and speak more boldly.
No contribution is too small when it is offered in obedience to God. A prayer can open closed doors. A gift can support a missionary. A conversation can change an eternity. A surrendered life can impact generations.
๐ค Reflection on these:
* Does my heart reflect God's love for all nations?
* How am I participating in God's mission today?
* What step is God asking me to take โpray, give, go, or mobilize others?
๐ Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for loving every tribe, every language, every people, and every nation. Give me a heart that reflects Your compassion for those who have never heard the Gospel. Show me how I can faithfully participate in Your mission, whether through praying, giving, serving, or going. Use my life to bring hope to the unreached and glory to Your name. In Jesus' name, Amen.
God's heart beats for the nations.
Does yours beat too?
